| Elden, in 1939 or '40, was in charge of making pancakes for the guys and instead of mixing pancake flour and water he mixed flour and water and had library paste. -Wilma '91 reunion When Elden was in college he set up the horse-shoe peg next to the house and the other on the way to class. When he left for school in the morning he would throw the shoe towards school and Wilma could always tell when Elden was coming home for lunch because the horseshoe would crash against the house. -Wilma '91 reunion In 1987 , just after Wilson had orthoscopic surgery he was up in the San Juans with Elden. One day both of them went out to the boat to get groceries. WIlson had specific instructions no to get his knee wet. When Wilson stepped into the dingy his knee gave and he fell into the back of the boat on top of Elden. The last thing Elden remembered was looking straightup at the bow of the digny as it promptly flipped over. Spectators remarked later (Gale Andrews) that she thought something was wrong when she heard Elden yell "OH SHIT!!" After the little experience WIlson swam straight for shore while Elden remained floating next to the dingy, trying to figure out what to do, with his pipe still in his mouth. -Wilson '91 reunion | ||||||||||||||||||
