Notes for John RAITT
He came over from Scotland when he was one month old. The
craddle he slept in when he came accross on the boat has been
slept in by all of his children and grandchildren down through
the generations (and still today).
Archie Raitt, Marcella Andrews, Dana Andrews, and Sarah Andrews

In addition to grade school it is believed that he attended high
school and one year of college. He was a businessman in
addition to being a farmer. Their are still records of his
stocks and accounting books.

In his latter years he would spend nine months of the year on
the Raitt farm (March to Christmas) and then he spent the other
three months in Monrovia, Calif. with aunt Maude. He kept
himself busy by doing odd jobs around the farm. For example he
chopped prunings off the trees and made fertilizer with it. He
would spend hours chopping braches into one inch lengths. -
During one of these sessions Marcella chopped off the end of her
thumb (it was subsequently sewed back on). Every Sunday morning
he and Marcella would go to Sunday school. While Marcella's
parents would go to church, they would come home and stop at
BEAN's grocery to buy the Sunday paper and jelly beans. On
Sundays Marcella recei

and great grandchild. He attended High School and attended
collage. He taught school for a period of time but went to
farming after his wife died and he was left with seven chilren
to raise by himself. He did many odd jobs around the farm after
he retired from farming. Until the last four years of his life
he lived on the farm with us. After that he lived on the farm
from March 1 until Jan. 1 then he went to California live with
his oldest daughter Maude for 2 months .
He did many little jobs such as chopping prunings from the trees
into tiny 1 inch pieces to be used for fertilizer in the
fields. also keeping the buildings in top repair by painting
and doing carpenter repair. One morning Marcella was helping
Grandpa chop up aome clippings with her own little ax and
chopped the end of her thumb off. It was sewed back on and was
okay.
Grandpa and Marcella would go to Sunday school while Archie &
Alta would attend church later. Then Grandpa and Marcella would
go to Beans grocery and buy a Sunday Paper, pipe tobacca, and
a bag of jelly beans. When we got home Marcella would fill
grandpa's humidor with the tobacca then we would sit in our
rocking chairs and Grandpa would read the funny paper to me.
Marcella was also given her weekly allowance by Grandpa which
was a buffalo nickel.
He was a very small man (about five two - one hundred and thirty
pounds) and he always had a mustache,
